De alfapump® is een subcutaan geïmplanteerde, batterij-aangedreven pomp die ascites automatisch en continu van de buikholte naar de blaas transporteert, waar het op natuurlijke wijze uit het lichaam wordt uitgescheiden, wat de kwaliteit van leven verbetert.
Veel patiënten zijn in staat geweest weer lichte activiteiten te hervatten die zij vóór het ontstaan van ascites graag deden, zoals zwemmen of een korte wandeling.
